Outside the Classroom

Student Organizations

Students can join the Native American Student Association (NASA) to learn more about Native American lifestyles and cultures across tribes, and they can attend cultural events throughout the year.

NASA members meet in the To Ki Ya Sdi room in Highsmith Student Union, a conference space named in honor of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and its lasting partnership with UNC Asheville.

Bridge Living Learning Community

A Living Learning Community (LLC) is a group of people who traditionally live on the same residence hall and share a similar academic or personal interest. LLCs at UNC Asheville offer students the opportunity to engage in an intentional community experience with like-minded individuals.

The Bridge LLC explores how today’s world connects, or bridges, to the original cultures of its lands. Residents enroll in AIIS 200: Introduction to American Indian and Indigenous Studies during the fall semester to fully understand the complex context of indigenous culture. Bridge LLC residents will aim to know and appreciate various indigenous cultures of the world in efforts to live with intention today.
